CAMP GAN COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS
Our summer 2021 protocols and procedures are based on the current guidelines from the CT Department of Early Childhood and the CT Department of Health as well as the established best practices by the American Camping Association, developed with Camps around the country to ensure a safe camp environment for our campers and staff this summer. Our safety plan exceeds all state and local health department guidelines, as well as recommendations from the CDC but also focuses on the mental and emotional well-being of all our campers.
Our Safety Plan will be updated if the guidelines change and new information become available.
FAQ - UPDATED MAY 26, 2021
Campers will always be outside or in open-air tents while participating in all camp activities. Per the OEC: Staff & campers, vaccinated or unvaccinated, are no longer required to wear masks outdoors. The requirement for staff, vaccinated or unvaccinated, to wear masks indoors in youth camps will continue. Children 3 years of age and older in youth camps must continue to wear masks indoors. 95% of our counselors are vaccinated. An unvaccinated staff member will wear a mask when coming close to a camper, even outdoors. Staff and campers will wear masks when indoors for occasional heat, rain or bathroom use.
Our Camp Program will take place outdoors except for brief breaks for heat or a brief thunderstorm. If there is a 100% prediction of rain or thunderstorms, Camp Gan will be canceled for those 1-2 days and we will go to a virtual schedule.
As in past summers, we fully expect our pool to be open most of the summer. Due to sharing our Campus with the Japanese School of Greenwich, there are a few days in the summer we are unable to open our pool. On those days we will have wet and wild activities for our campers. Campers are placed in small groups based on comfort and ability levels. Instruction is customized for each child by a swim supervisor.
Upon completion of a new skill level, campers receive certificates recognizing their achievement. Our aquatics directors and pool staff are certified American Red Cross lifeguards and Water safety instructors. Division heads and counselors closely monitor the swim progress of each camper in their care.
Bus transportation will be provided throughout Greenwich, Stamford, and limited stops in Westchester. Sign-up will be going out to enrolled families in early June. More details and safety protocols will be shared as additional guidelines become available from the state and local health departments. Total bus capacity will be reduced and campers will have assigned seats. Full-sized buses will be used whenever possible to increase social distancing. Campers may only share a seat with siblings. All campers and staff will be required to wear face coverings on the bus.
We will not be having our regular, buffet lunch this summer. Parents have 2 options for lunch this year:
- Lunch Purchase Option from Soosh Catering: You may order a personal lunch for your child for the summer at SooshCT.com/CAMP. Soosh will be delivering daily and lunches will be taken to campers at their bunk.
- You may send a dairy, nut-free lunch from home. We will be providing every camper with a Bento Lunch Container that will be placed in bunk-specific coolers on campus.
There will be two full-time maintenance staff on-site to ensure cleanliness in bathrooms, changing rooms, and campus. Staff will be trained in enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols, as well as increased hand washing for themselves and the campers in their bunk Campers must wash hands with soap and water or sanitize hands with a CDC approved hand sanitizer upon arrival, between activities, after using the restroom, before and after eating, and after sneezing, coughing or blowing their nose.
If a camper or counselor in your bunk is diagnosed with COVID-19, the bunk will be closed for a minimum of 2 weeks. We will immediately report it to the health department and follow their direction. We will also offer a credit of 50% of your prorated 2021 tuition to use toward camp tuition for Summer 2022. If we are forced to close, due to COVID-19, we will transition to a virtual camp model and all campers will receive a Camp Gan Out-of-the-Box subscription. We will also offer a credit of 50% of your prorated 2021 tuition to use toward camp tuition for Summer 2022.
